• Graphic design is an part in commercial form and always refers to the application of the design process which determines the look and structure of human-made object to visual communication.
• Graphic design can be thought of as a visual language that is used to convey a message to an audience, and a visual representation of an idea that relies on the creation, selection, and organization of visual elements to create an effective communication.
• Graphic design, both good and bad, surrounds us is our everyday lives in sighs on shop and public places, in newspapers, magazines, posters, flyers, ads, TV commercials, and in all the printed materials that come to us through mails.
• Graphic designer should be able to produce a design that attractable in this form of environment.
• In graphic design, the objects are type and graphic, word and pictures, and they moved around on printed pages on a drawing board or a computer monitor. It is the designer's job to organize this information.

1.4.2 The graphic design profession

• The graphic design profession is an expert creative discipline that focuses on visual and verbal communication and meaning.
• It is also a business practive through which ideas are given visual form using type, image, and composition.
• Some graphic design and advertising serves commerce and drives the economy; other graphic design and advertising serves society and social causes.
• There are many specialized areas within the graphic design profession and can be broken into a number of major categories.

• Information Design
  Whether the application is a chart, web site, pictogram, or instruction booklet, the graphic designer's task is to clearly communicate, make information easily accessible and clarify and enhance any type of information.

1.4 Graphic Design

• Visual communication plays a key role in the appearance of almost all print, film, and digital media, graphic designers and advertising art directors are the primary source of the visual artefacts of our environment and culture.

1.3 Design Function

• Design function as equipment in an organization, to attract attention.
• Design is about finding the best solution to a problem within the limitations of the problem (needs, cost, time).
• Objects or items have relationship as means to increase effectiveness and security.
• It is the method to control the environment, to innovate something so it can be suitable with the necessity and usability.

Some of the functions of design areas follows:

1. Effective design save money. By reducing the cost of manual labours, materials and production.

2. Design save time by presenting information more clearly, precise and easily understood.

3. Design simplifies the product used and manufacturing process. It can also ease up maintenance of items and help human to use the machines and tools easily. The product used will be a problem if the design is not available and suitable.

4. Design enhances communication and helps more people to understand a given message. Indirectly a design can help to speed up learning process.

5. Design is helps us to find an answer for a problem that involves insistence, cost and time.

1.2.1 Two art-value

Design based on a role of two-art value::

1. Fine Art
   • Fine art is defined as a production of visual art that focuses more on esthetic values.
   • It also involves emotion, impression and expression as well as the artist satisfaction. Fine art also focuses on the beauty and the loveliness rather than usage.
   • Besides its function as an artist expression media, fine art also commonly used for interior design decoration and landscaping.
2. Liberal Art
   • The term liberal arts has come to mean studies that are intended to provide general knowledge and intellectual skill, rather than more specialized occupational, scientific, or artistic skills.
   • Liberal Art is a design that we can produce based on these 3 factors:
     1. Basic material - Produce design by using a raw materials
     2. Making process - Using several techniques for example cutting and welding.
     3. Technology - Using machine so that the production can be increased

1.2 Division Of Design

Design areas of specialization can be divided into 3 categories:

1. Graphic design - Design that people read and sees. For example books, magazine, advertising, packaging, billboard, film and title of television, posters, brochure and exhibition.
2. Product design - Object that people use likes the things or item that are applicable to human needs. For example: tools, machines, transporting, hardware, remote control and structure.
3. Environmental design - People use it to live. It interconnects with the human daily activities. For example, interior design, building structure, houses, garden, parking lot, city etc.

1.1 Defining Design

• Design has a more universal meaning than the commercial applications that might first come to mind.
• A dictionary definition uses the synonym "plan": To design indeed means to plan or to organize.
• Design is inhererent in the full range of art disciplines.
• The disciplines of creating or following the sequence of process to make a design such as creative process.
• Design is the final combination of aesthetic functions in a harmony form.

Aesthetics An aesthetic is the concept of philosophy that appraises art, beauty, and associated concept by certain standards.

• There are many design examples that we can find. But, we always fail to observe and identify the importance of design.
• Wherever we go, design can influence us, whether we notice it or not.
• For example, in our house, we use lamp, carpet, curtain and for the room decoration. And at the outside of the house there is gardens which can make environment look more beautiful.
• It is true that designers do not use all criteria to be noticed by everybody. Do you know that some of them rise without a plan!
